Judith has an MA (Hons) degree in Modern European languages from Edinburgh
University. After graduating she worked in public relations for five years, responsible for a
diverse array of accounts (fmcg, blue-chip, and industrial) within agencies and for the in-house
PR of a large financial corporate (formerly Deloitte Haskins & Sells). Thereafter she set up her own
export sales and marketing consultancy servicing UK industrial clients' representation throughout Western Europe. In 1992 she entered the field of training, joining a specialist management skills training organisation and concentrated firstly on educational training programmes before graduating on to management skills programmes.
Since 1997 she has moved to Pune and has been conducting corporate trainings in India.

This module is designed for all managers carrying out appraisals
and encourages them to think about and focus on the areas that will ensure an
effective performance review.

Examine how performance reviews help employees.
How to establish the right climate for performance reviews.
The role of goal setting with special emphasis on soft skills goals.
Examine how to keep an on-going evaluation/observation of soft skills for discussion at a later
date.
Examine how to encourage people in their work so that they perform best.
How to show the right attitude in performance reviews. Examine
our behaviour and carry out a self-evaluation exercise.
How you, as a manager, should prepare for the review. Checklist of dos and don’ts.
How to develop an action plan for a good performance review.
Conducting the review.
Role-play all of the following points:
- How to get the reviewee to talk freely.
- How to give constructive feedback (DASR method).
- How to use appropriate questioning, listening and body language techniques.
Closing the review. The best ways to ‘leave’ the review so that the
reviewee feels positive.
The follow-up. Examine why this is the most critical stage of the whole
process.
